Try it

Try three items from the Writing PDF

Build a Sentence is the first Writing task. Put the tiles in order to answer the first line: one tile is left over each time.

  1. Sentence 1 of 3

    Make an appropriate sentence.

Did you get the tickets for the concert?

Yes, blank 1 blank 2 blank 3 blank 4 last night.

Tap the tiles in order. Tap a placed tile to take it back.

How to practise from a PDF

Our advice, with why each step works. Paper is great for practice, as long as it’s close to how the test really works.

  1. Time yourself. Knowing an answer and knowing it in time are different skills, and the real test is timed. Each PDF’s cover suggests a time to aim for.

  2. Hear Listening once. Don’t read it. On the test you hear each recording once and never see it written, so reading a script trains a skill the test doesn’t ask for. Have a friend read it aloud, or read it once and cover it.

  3. Speak out loud, and record yourself. Answers always sound smoother in your head. A recording shows the pauses and dropped words you won’t notice while you’re speaking.

  4. Answer every question. A wrong answer costs you nothing more than that one point, so a guess can only help.

  5. Read the why, not just the letter. Every answer comes with a short explanation. When you get one wrong, it shows you which trap caught you, so you can spot it next time.

  6. Finish on screen, in the real format. Paper can’t adapt to you. On the real test, how you do in the first Reading and Listening module decides the second. The free online tests do that, and time you too.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Practising from a TOEFL PDF made before 2026

Use 2026-format material. The old Speaking tasks and the long essays are gone, and Reading and Listening have new tasks.

  • Reading the Listening scripts to yourself

Have them read aloud once, or read once and cover them, as close as paper gets to hearing a recording once.

  • Rewording a Listen and Repeat sentence so it sounds better

Say it back exactly, small words and endings too. A smooth version in your own words isn’t a repetition.

  • Leaving a Complete the Words word empty

Write your best guess. An empty word scores nothing, and a guess might score.

  • Writing a good email that skips one of the three tasks

Use the three tasks as your plan: one short paragraph for each, in order.

TOEFL PDF questions

Is there a free TOEFL practice test PDF for the 2026 format?

Yes. The 4 PDFs on this page follow the format the TOEFL iBT has used since January 2026, with every task type in each section, plus answers and short explanations. They’re free to download and print, with no sign-up.

Are these official ETS materials?

No. Every item was written by GoodMocks for practice, in the same format as the real test, and none of it is copied from ETS. For ETS’s own materials, go to ets.org.

Why don’t older TOEFL PDFs work for the new test?

The test changed in January 2026. Speaking is now Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview, the old essays became Build a Sentence, Write an Email and an Academic Discussion, and Reading and Listening have new, shorter tasks. A PDF made before then practises tasks you won’t see.

Is each PDF a full-length test?

The Speaking and Writing PDFs have every item of a real section. The Reading and Listening PDFs are shorter sets with one of every task: 20 reading questions against 50 on the real test, and 16 listening questions against 47 on the real test. For a full-length, timed section, take the free test online.

How do I practise Listening and Speaking from a PDF?

Ask a friend to read the scripts at the back aloud, once each, while you answer. On your own, read a script once, cover it, then answer. On the test you hear each recording once, so don’t replay or reread it.

Can I get a score from the PDF?

You can count your right answers in Reading, Listening and Build a Sentence. ETS doesn’t publish how right answers turn into a band, so the PDF doesn’t pretend to. For a band score from 1.0 to 6.0, take the section online.

Can I print and share the PDFs?

Yes. Print as many copies as you like, for yourself or for a class, and share this page’s link with anyone preparing for the TOEFL.
